Basement Renovation Ideas to Make Things Interesting

Posted by: eModernDecor

Basement is often frowned upon when it comes to interior design. Being the most unfrequented room in the house, house owners commonly opt for a storage room! But we are here to bring more life into the basements and show how they can be made interesting and can be a great place to hang-out. We will look into how it can be turned into a home-theater, indoor game room, gym, bar & wine cellar.

Without further adieu, here’s the list:

Create a movie theater:

Our mission is to make the place interesting and placing a couple of speakers and a wide television will work wonders. Watching movies requires no physical activity and is often considered an unproductive work; hence placing the theater at the bottom of the house seems like a good idea. Moreover, these systems produce loud noise and placing them in the basement keeps the noise down for the rest of the family. You could choose for wood or glazed floor tiles. For movies you can bring a TV or a projector. For seating, go for lounge chairs and a lot of stools for big crowds.

Indoor Game:

Indoor game is the perfect recipe for a life-like basement. It can be designed to fit for any age and for the whole family. If it’s meant just for your kids, the design has to change with his/her growing age. However, you will need a lot of storage to keep things organized. You could start off by placing some small table and armchairs for card and board games; A TV and PlayStation or Xbox; A pool table or a table tennis. Throw-in some bean bags and you’re good to go!

Home Gym:

Don’t let your schedules stop you from staying healthy. If you are a fitness fanatic and believe, a day without gym is a day wasted; then this is the best solution to make use of the space. All you need a finished floor, a few sets of dumbbells, barbells, cardio-equipments, racks, workout towers and some mats. This can be a great place for yoga too; with a little bit of ventilation, of course. This could be a great way to stay in shape.

Bar and Wine Cellar:

This is a great option if your basement is small or narrow; a mini bar would take-up only a fraction of space. You could easily create a ‘I’ shaped or ‘L’ shaped bar top; floating racks to hold the liquor; a mini fridge; some dramatic lighting; side chairs; couple of stools; a bar sink; a few friends and that’s it; have a great time at your own place.

If you have other plans or ideas, go crazy! Breath new life to that dark corner that sits at the bottom of your house. If all fails, consider these tips, ask some professionals and make your own entertainment center.
